Bryan Middle Students Participate in the Regional Science Fair

On March 4, sixteen students in Dave Spies eighth grade Honors Physical Science class participated in the Regional Science Fair at Francis Howell North (FHN) High School. The students are learning so much that it would be a shame to simply take a test, or write a research paper. By emphasizing the science fair projects, Spies was able push the envelope for his students to get more out of the class, and have the possibility to compete in the Regional Fair. The three first place winners have earned the right to move on to the Broadcom MASTERS competition in the fall of 2017.
Music for All – FHSD Honor Band and Choir Performance

In March, the school’s learning commons held their annual Reading Extravaganza, a day that encourages better reading comprehension and analysis, all while making it fun.

On Friday, March 3, students in the Robotics Clubs at Saeger, Barnwell, Bryan, and Francis Howell Middle Schools competed in the General Motors LEGO Challenge at St. Charles Community College.
A Plea for Engaging Learning - Mock Trial held at Bryan Middle

There are so many memorable trials in history, but two stand out in recent memory – the mock trials held at Bryan Middle School earlier this year. They were an opportunity for students at Bryan to learn how to communicate in a different way, and according to a very specific set of rules. It also provided an opportunity for all students who participated to see how our legal system works.

On Friday, Feb. 2, 2017, the Science Fair returned to Bryan Middle School. Science teacher Dave Spies enlisted the help of faculty, staff, and the Bryan PTO to reinstate the Science Fair after a long absence. Approximately 95 students participated and conducted experiments, tested their hypotheses, and communicated their findings on display boards.

Happy New Year and welcome back to the start of second semester. We are looking forward to having a successful remainder of our year. As your children returned from break, they may have had changes to their schedule, particularly in the area of electives. We gave students a new copy of their schedule when they returned on January 5.

FHSD Schools Celebrate National Red Ribbon Week

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) will be dipped in red the week of Oct. 24-28, as schools across the District and the nation celebrate Red Ribbon Week, an event dedicated to raising awareness for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence prevention. Many FHSD schools will educate students on drug prevention with special events, activities and fun-themed spirit days.
New FHSD Safety Measures Include Unannounced Intruder Drills

Student safety is always a top priority of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). The District annually conducts a variety of safety drills including fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Participation in these safety drills is where most students get directly involved in their own safety. New this year, FHSD will conduct one unannounced intruder drill at each of our schools.
“Ugly” Author Robert Hoge Visits Bryan Middle and Speaks on Overcoming Adversity

Australian Author Robert Hoge visited Bryan Middle to tell his story of a life of full of challenges, after he was born with a tumor on his face. He presented his memoir "Ugly" to the Bryan sixth-graders, where he talked about his struggles and his success of overcoming them.

Most of us want to make the world a better place, but we often wait too long to make a difference. But not Zoey Hulbert. Not even in high school yet, Zoey is already making her mark on her community by helping raise awareness about students with special needs. She’s hoping to inspire us to see these kids differently in a social media campaign called “Zoey’s Spark.”
FHSD Recognized for Bus Safety

The buses that safely transport students of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) every day will display a special new sticker starting in August, after earning the “Total Fleet Excellence” distinction for 2016. The stickers indicate excellence in the overall maintenance and reliability of the District’s bus fleet. The distinction is determined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol based on the results of the annual school bus inspection, a program conducted by the Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Division.

New Immunization Requirement for Incoming Eighth Graders and Seniors

Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, all eighth grade students and incoming high school seniors will be required to have the meningococcal (meningitis) vaccine. These immunizations are required by the State of Missouri prior to the start of school.

New Bryan Middle School Principal Announced

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) has announced that Dr. Suzanne Chester has been named the new principal at Bryan Middle School, effective July 1, 2016. Dr. Chester will be replacing Mark Delaney, who was named FHSD Director of Human Resources in May. She is currently serving as assistant principal of Fort Zumwalt East High School. As principal at Bryan Middle, Dr. Chester hopes to promote excellence among students, teachers, and community members.
